About Bee Humana

Bee Humana is a fully lichenized trio and a phosphorescent good time in the darkness. They’re complex and lyrical; they’re often sad, and always beautiful. Their sound combines folk storytelling and guitar with torch-style vocals, wrapped up in a tropicalia-slash-indie rock vegan fur coat: latin, folk, and classical guitar rhythms are backed by rock-and-punk-influenced bass and percussion. They’ve been compared to “Elis Regina and Carlos Jobim sitting in with The Dirty Three and Cat Stevens in a candlelit garage.” Their live set is all original work.

Bee’s solo live set is more intimate and combines mostly original work with a few vintage Mexican songs from the first half of the 20th century. She also occasionally does collaborations with performance and puppet artists.

Singer songwriter Bee came to Columbus, Ohio from the Virginia countryside after having lived, loved and lost in Valencia, Spain. She’s originally from Richmond, Virginia. She has played a classical guitar since she was 14 and composes and performs all Bee Humana songs on it – sometimes in English, sometimes in Spanish. She’s been singing since she was a toddler and grew up in a jazz-loving household, which left an indelible impression.

In 2022, friend Sam Brown couldn’t ignore the devil on his shoulder any longer and contributed his drums, humor, and expertise to the mix. Sam hails from Bucyrus, Ohio and has played drums all over the world in multiple bands such as Divine Fits, New Bomb Turks, Gaunt and Operators.

In 2023, friend and powerhouse David Holm was invited to join in on bass and thankfully, he jumped into the fray without hesitation. David is from Delaware, Ohio and is a multi-instrumentalist-plus-singer-songwriter best known for leading the bands Bigfoot and Ugly Stick.
